Triminator XL Kief Kit for Dry Sift Collection on the XL Dry The heart of this kit is a drum wrapped in 150 micron mesh made from 316 stainless steel. Its core is 304 stainless steel, built to stand up to long tumbling runs. This kief drum slides into the XL Dry in place of the standard slotted trim drum, turning the trimmer into a kief tumbler. As it turns, trichome heads break free from the trim and fall through the mesh. FDA-compliant, BPA-free plastic trays slide in underneath to catch everything that sifts through. A collection brush is included for sweeping kief off the trays, the drum and the machine edges. Fill the drum about 1/2 to 3/4 full, since overfilling lowers both quality and speed. Frozen trim gives the best separation. Dry ice can join the load at roughly 70 to 80 percent trim to 20 to 30 percent ice. Only crushed or pellet ice belongs in the drum, because large chunks damage the screen. A run lasts up to 10 minutes with the machine held horizontal the whole time. Splitting that into two 5 minute runs separates the first, finer pull from the second. Swapping in the Kief Drum on an XL Dry Start with the motor off, both cords unplugged and the trimmer level. Loosen the shear band tension at the knob and flip the pawl clear of the ratchet. Loosen the set screws on the drum retainer blocks and slide them up. Pull the drive wheel lever to retract the wheel from the drum. With a second person, slide the trim drum out and rest it on a soft surface. Lift the shear band off its tabs and store it flat with the trim drum. Slide the kief drum in, keeping the drive wheel aligned with its groove. Release the spring pin so the wheel moves back against the drum. Lower the retainer blocks to the bottom of their travel and tighten the set screws. Insert the collection trays and tilt the machine back to load. After loading, refit the end cap and give chilled trim a few minutes to get cold. When the timer ends, keep the trimmer level and slide the trays out with care. Brush the drum and the machine edges into the trays before putting anything away.
