Why a 70/30 Coco Perlite Blend Exists at All
Straight coir holds a lot of water, and in a deep pot the bottom third stays wet for too long. Thirty percent perlite by volume breaks that up. Perlite particles create pore space that drains rather than holds, so the profile dries more evenly.
Purchase directly from Growers HouseWhy a 70/30 Coco Perlite Blend Exists at All
Straight coir holds a lot of water, and in a deep pot the bottom third stays wet for too long. Thirty percent perlite by volume breaks that up. Perlite particles create pore space that drains rather than holds, so the profile dries more evenly. The coir fraction is the same buffered material as Clean Coco on its own. It is sourced from farms in Tamil Nadu and processed for consistency batch to batch. Bags are two cubic feet and there are sixty five on a pallet. Every lot is tested three times: at source, on arrival at the US facility, and before shipping. Third party labs run pH, conductivity, mineral content, heavy metals, pesticide residue and microbials. The whole blend is OMRI Listed. Storage is climate controlled and transport is under cover, which is how the material stays clean in transit.
Air Porosity, Dryback Speed and What It Costs
Air porosity is the number that actually separates this from pure coir, and it changes irrigation. More air means faster dryback, which means more frequent and smaller feeds. That suits a grower steering with several daily irrigations rather than one heavy soak. It also gives a margin on a hand watered crop, where a wet pot can otherwise sit for a day. The trade is water holding, because this mix runs out sooner than straight coir in the same pot. On a hot week that difference shows up as a plant wilting a few hours earlier. Perlite floats, so expect some separation at the top of a bag that has been moved around. Mix a bag through before filling if the top looks white. A pallet fills a room in one pass, which is what this format is for. Anyone running deep pots on a timer with few events should use the straight coir instead.
