Inside it, a UV lamp sits within a titanium dioxide honeycomb cell. Air passing the cell gives up some of its humidity as hydroperoxide vapour, and that vapour drifts out into the room on the airflow. That is the photocatalytic oxidation half of the name, PCO. Placing a PCO Air and Surface Sanitizer Over a Canopy A PCO air and surface sanitizer only works on what its vapour reaches, so placement is most of the job. Mount it 12 to 14 in above the top of the canopy, on a wall or a post, with the outlet facing across the plants. Keep it 3 to 4 ft from any circulation fan so the stream is spread rather than blasted into one corner. A room with a good fan pattern distributes the vapour on its own. A dead corner with no air movement stays a dead corner, and that is where mildew shows first. One unit per 500 sq ft is the rating. A multi-tier room needs one per tier of canopy, because each tier is its own surface area. Leave it running all the time. The mechanism is continuous suppression, holding spore counts down day after day, and a unit switched off for a week has nothing in reserve. Mark the install date on the housing. The PCO cell loses output over a year, quietly, and the room looks fine until it does not. Replace the cell on the anniversary rather than on symptoms. Swap the two fibre filters at each harvest reset, when the room is empty and the housing can be wiped down. Keep the intake clear of dust and trichome fluff, since a clogged pre-filter starves the cell of the airflow that carries the vapour out.
