This product contains fungi and no bacteria at all. The two actives are Trichoderma asperellum strain ICC 012 and Trichoderma gamsii strain ICC 080, each declared at 2.0 percent, with other ingredients making up 96.0 percent. Each strain is guaranteed at a minimum of five million colony forming units per gram. The EPA registration number is 80289-9-67690 and the signal word is CAUTION. The re-entry interval is four hours. The label names its targets rather than gesturing at them: Armillaria, Fusarium, Phytophthora, Pythium, Rhizoctonia, Rosellinia, Sclerotinia, Sclerotium rolfsii, Thielaviopsis basicola and Verticillium.
Why Two Trichoderma Strains Rather Than One
The argument for a two strain product is environmental range. Any single organism has a temperature and moisture band where it colonises well, and a wider band where it merely survives. A one species formulation therefore performs unevenly across a season. Pairing two strains with different optima widens the window in which something is actively growing on the root surface. That is why the label claims performance down to around 44.6 degrees Fahrenheit. Application is preventative rather than curative, and this is the part growers most often get wrong. The organism has to colonise the root zone before a pathogen arrives. It works by occupying the space and the food rather than by killing on contact. Going in after symptoms appear wastes the material. Broadcast rates run 2.5 to 5.0 pounds per acre, and greenhouse or nursery drenches are mixed at 2.5 to 7.5 ounces per 100 gallons of water.
