This light draws up to 40W through an external supply rated 100–240V AC in and 19–24V DC out. Kessil's Dense Matrix LED blends many chips into one array. That single source gives even color and a natural shimmer across the water. The color knob runs from 6,000K to 9,000K, a daylight range tuned for freshwater plants and fish. A second knob sets intensity, while Kessil Logic holds output steady across the color range. The head measures 4 x 2.48 in and weighs 0.69 lb. It has no fan, so it runs silently over a living-room tank. A 0–10V port connects it to an aquarium controller or Kessil's Spectral Controller X. Multiple units can be daisy-chained from one controller for longer tanks. The box includes the DC supply, two metal hooks, a bracket and two hanging brackets.
Growing Plants Under a Planted Aquarium Light
A planted aquarium light has to push light through water without cooking the tank or feeding algae. Kessil rates coverage at 24 x 24 in for lightly planted tanks and 18 x 18 in for moderately planted ones. Light reaches about 24 to 30 inches down, enough for most tall display tanks. Start at low intensity and a short photoperiod, then add time and brightness as plants settle. Pair higher light with CO2 and fertilizer, or algae will outpace the plants. Warmer settings make reds and greens pop for viewing. Cooler settings near the top of the range look crisper and brighter. Run it on a controller to ramp sunrise and sunset, which keeps fish calmer. Saltwater reefs need the Tuna Blue version, which carries actinic blue and UV for corals. A gooseneck or mounting arm is sold separately.
