Gro Pro Round Fabric Pot, 20 Gal | 21 in Across and 15 Deep

Why the Shape of a 20 Gallon Fabric Pot Matters Twenty-one inches across and fifteen deep is a deliberately wide, shallow proportion. Root systems in a container that shape spread laterally into a large surface area rather than spiralling around a deep cylinder. Lateral is where most feeder roots do their work anyway. The fabric is non-woven, and the whole wall breathes rather than only the drainage holes at the base. Air enters the medium from every side, which keeps oxygen available right out to the edges. It also means the pot will not hold standing water. A heavy watering drains instead of sitting in the bottom and drowning the lower roots. Empty weight is 0.55 lb, so the pot itself contributes almost nothing to what has to be lifted. The fabric also keeps the root zone cooler in heat, because evaporation through the wall carries heat away. What Air Pruning Does to a Root Ball A root that reaches a plastic wall turns and keeps going. It circles until the ball is a dense spiral that never uses the middle of the pot. A root that reaches fabric meets dry air instead and stops there. The plant responds by branching behind the tip. Repeat that across the whole wall and you get a dense, fibrous mass of short feeder roots rather than a few long circling ones. That is the mechanism the fabric is there for. There are two costs to be honest about. Evaporation through the wall means these dry out faster than plastic of the same volume. Watering frequency goes up in a warm room, and the pot wants a surface that drains. And they wick, so a fabric pot standing in a tray of runoff will pull it back up. Lift them onto saucers or a bench and the problem disappears. Key Features Volume: 20 gallons, in a wide rather than a deep proportion Dimensions: 21 inches in diameter by 15 inches in height Material: High quality non-woven fabric across the whole wall Aeration: Air enters from every side, not only through base holes Drainage: The wall will not trap water, so heavy watering drains away Root temperature: Evaporation through the fabric keeps the root zone cooler Empty weight: 0.55 lb, so the pot adds nothing to the lifting weight Trade-off: Faster dry-back than plastic, so watering frequency rises Technical Specifications Specification Value SKU 725835 Brand Gro Pro Volume 20 gallons Diameter 21 in Height 15 in Material Non-woven fabric Colour Black Handles Not fitted on this model Empty weight 0.55 lb Aeration Through the full wall surface Drainage Free draining, with no standing water held Reusable Yes, the fabric is washable between crops UPC 850273003631
