Most growers just call it the Faven R8, and it is one of the most common bars hung under a flowering canopy. It draws 120W and puts out up to 340 µmol/s, which works out to 2.9 µmol/J. About 80% of that output is red, chosen to complement white top lights rather than duplicate them. The bar measures 46 x 2.9 x 3.3 in, weighs 5.73 lb and spreads light over a 120° beam. Current draw is 1.0A at 120V, 0.5A at 240V or 0.43A at 277V. One cord can run 10 bars at 120V, 17 at 240V or 20 at 277V. The housing is sealed to IP66, which matters when a bar sits right where drippers and runoff land. Dimming runs through an RJ11 port, with Trolmaster support through an adapter and Vivosun controllers also listed. It is ETL, DLC, CE and FCC certified with a 5-year warranty and a rated life over 50,000 hours. Power cords and jumpers are sold separately, so plan the cord set by your room voltage.
Placing an Under Canopy LED So It Pays Off
An under canopy led earns its keep once the stretch is done and the top of the canopy has closed. At that point the lower third of each plant sits in shade and tends to finish as airy popcorn. Hang the bars between plant rows or along the bench, pointing up into the lower branches rather than at the floor. Faven's sizing rule is easy. Divide the bench length by the bar length to get bars per row. Start dimmed and bring intensity up over several days, because leaves raised in shade can scorch when suddenly lit. The dimmer bottoms out around a third of full power rather than at zero, so plan on switching it off entirely in veg. Clean up the lower growth first, since lighting leaves you will strip later wastes power. The red-heavy spectrum is a supplement, and it will make the lower canopy look pinkish during inspections. Tents with only a few plants and no real lower canopy get little from it. In a dense flower room, it is one of the easier ways to firm up the buds that usually end up as trim.
Key Features
80% red spectrum: Built to complement white top lights and push flowering on lower bud sites.
Up to 2.9 µmol/J: Efficient output keeps added heat under the canopy modest.
IP66 sealed housing: Handles drip lines, runoff and condensation at the base of plants.
RJ11 dimming: Runs from Trolmaster through an adapter, and from Vivosun controllers.
Daisy-chain by voltage: Link 10 bars at 120V, 17 at 240V or 20 at 277V on one cord.
ETL, DLC, CE, FCC: Commercial certifications with a 5-year warranty.
