AWOL Carbon PAD Insert. 12 x 12 in, Fits AWOL and Funk Fighter Bags

What the AWOL Carbon PAD Insert Adds to a Bag A bag can hold odour in two ways, and most bags only do one of them. A seal blocks the path out, which is what an airtight zipper does. Activated carbon binds odour molecules to its own surface, which is a chemical mechanism rather than a physical one. The AWOL DAILY and DIVER bags hold odour with fabric and closure rather than with carbon. This pad is how the second mechanism gets added. It measures 12 by 12 inches and weighs about 0.1 lb. That light weight is the clue to what it is, a thin pad of carbon-loaded media rather than a filter cartridge. It drops in loose rather than fitting a particular pocket. DL Wholesale list it for AWOL bags and also for Funk Fighter bags. A square foot of pad is sized for a duffle rather than for a room. In a 120 litre bag one pad works, and in a 262 litre bag two do better than one. Nothing about it is tied to a single bag model, which is why it also serves as replacement padding. Getting the Most Out of an Activated Carbon Pad An activated carbon pad has a finite surface area, and that is the whole of its budget. Odour molecules occupy sites on the carbon until the sites run out. After that the pad is still there and no longer doing anything, which is the failure mode nobody notices. Heat and tumbling recover some capacity on a carbon-lined bag, and the same logic applies here. A few minutes in a dryer on low shakes the media loose and frees some surface. Humidity is the quiet enemy. Water vapour occupies carbon sites just as readily as anything else does. A pad stored in a damp bag is partly spent before it ever carries a load. Keep spares sealed in a bag of their own and dry. Replace a pad that has stopped working rather than fighting it, because the media is the consumable. Two pads in a large bag beat one pad changed twice as often. Position matters a little, so lay it against the top of the load rather than underneath it. Key Features 12 x 12 inches: A square foot of carbon media, at about 0.1 lb. Fits AWOL bags: DL Wholesale list it for the AWOL range and for Funk Fighter bags. Adds adsorption: AWOL bags hold odour by seal and fabric, and this pad adds a binding layer. Drops in loose: No dedicated pocket is needed, so it suits more than one bag model. Also replacement padding: It can take the place of a spent carbon pad in another bag. Dryer refresh: A few minutes on low loosens the media and frees some surface area. Keep spares dry: Water vapour occupies carbon sites, so a damp pad is partly spent.
