When the tray runs dry the valve opens, refills to a set depth, then closes and waits. That wet and dry cycle needs no pump, no timer and no power at all. Gravity feeds it from whatever tank the parent kit already uses. Two root control discs go under the pots to keep roots out of the valve. A 1.5 m length of quarter-inch pipe comes with it. The tank has to sit above the tray or the valve cannot fill, and a few inches of lift is usually enough. Keep the line short and free of kinks, because narrow pipe does not forgive a tight bend.
