This is a liquid, broad-spectrum scale inhibitor for the pretreatment side of a commercial RO unit. It suits the kind of system that turns hard source water into clean feed water for a grow facility. It holds calcium carbonate in solution up to a Calcium Carbonate Nucleation Index of 2.2. It also inhibits calcium sulfate, calcium fluoride, barium sulfate, strontium sulfate and silica scale. Beyond scale, it stabilizes dissolved metal ions and disperses existing metal oxides, silt and clay particles. The liquid is clear to pale yellow, with a pH of 3 to 4 as supplied and a specific gravity near 1.10. It mixes completely with water. It carries NSF/ANSI Standard 60 certification for drinking water treatment chemicals. Applied Membranes makes it in an ISO 9001:2015 certified facility in the USA. This bucket holds 5 gallons (19 L) and weighs about 45 lb. The product is approved for use by all major membrane manufacturers.
Dosing an Antiscalant for RO Membrane Protection
Feed it continuously, upstream of the final cartridge filter, so treated water reaches the membranes already protected. A chemical dosing pump draws it either straight from the bucket or from a dilution tank, injecting into the feedwater line. The right rate depends on your feedwater analysis and how hard the system runs, especially its recovery. Run the numbers from your water report against the system's operating manual before setting the pump. That dosing step lets a system run higher recovery without hardness crashing out on the membrane surface. Less scale means steadier permeate flow and fewer acid cleanings over the life of the elements. Because there is no regeneration cycle, there is no brine tank to refill and no flush water to send down the drain. Store the bucket somewhere cool and dry, with the lid sealed between refills. Wear gloves and eye protection when topping up the dosing tank. It is meant for commercial and industrial membrane systems with a dosing pump. A small under-sink or tent-sized RO unit without chemical injection has no way to feed it.
Key Features
Broad-Spectrum Scale Control: Inhibits carbonate, sulfate, fluoride and silica scales that foul RO membranes.
CCNI Up to 2.2: Keeps calcium carbonate in solution on harder feedwater than an untreated system can handle.
Metal and Silt Dispersion: Stabilizes metal ions and keeps oxides, silt and clay suspended instead of settling on the membrane.
NSF/ANSI 60 Certified: Certified for drinking water treatment, which suits systems producing water for crops and people.
No Regeneration: There is no brine cycle, so it saves the water and downtime that softener regeneration uses.
